Being a newcomer to prison has to be one of the toughest tasks there is. You have to learn who to speak to, when you can speak, who is for you and who is against you. Men of color are highly impacted by incarceration. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, one in three black men can expect to go to prison in their lifetime. Many African American men are already subjected to incarceration before they even know it. Society often discriminates against the African American male. Many people often confuse society with culture. Culture is the socially standardized way of thinking, acting, and feeling that a person acquires as they adapt to their environment. Whereas, society refers to a group of people, interacting with a given territory. Prison Culture is a vague world that most of us will never understand but deserves to have some light shed upon it. America tends to look past this culture once their people become a part of prison
