Cryopreservation
Cryopreservation is a technique where sperms, oocytes or embryos are preserved for future use. During the procedure, the lab will freeze sperm by cooling to low sub zero temperatures, such as -196 degrees C. In other words, cryopreservation is used in infertility programs to freeze and store sperm, eggs or to freeze "leftover" embryos from an in vitro fertilization cycle. The two methods that are currently used for freezing in IVF labs: Slow freezing and vitrification.
Embryo Freezing
Embryo freezing is a significant part of the IVF process. Patients can freeze their good quality eggs for future use. In other words, embryos that are not transferred but continue to thrive in the laboratory dish can be cryopreserved (frozen).
Senior IVF specialist, Dr. Rita Bakshi, who is an expert in this field recommends freezing for high quality embryos that survive to the balstocsyt stage. As mentioned, there are two ways to freeze embryos. Slow freezing and vitrification.
In vitrification, embryos are placed into special solutions and then placed without delay into liquid nitrogen. Vitrification has led to higher pregnancy rates and is the breakthrough in the process of freezing.

Semen freezing is advised as a back up when the husband is worried that he may not be able to produce a semen sample on the required day due to anxiety/stress. Semen freezing is requested in men suffering from malignancies prior to exposure to chemotherapy or radiation, which will affect sperm production. Semen freezing may also be a good option if the male partner are about to partake in any activity that could affect your ability to produce sperm in the future. For example, active members of the military often choose to freeze sperm in case of
