1. Summarise entitlement and provision for early years’ education

There are different types of childcare available for young years. These are pre-school and nursery. Pre-school (0-5 yr. olds) can be described as several different groups such as:
• Play groups: - this is a regular meeting of a group of parents and children at a local centre or community hall for children to play and interact with other and learn new skills and for parents to meet other parents in the area. This type of play group is normal run by voluntary groups, who provide part time play and early learning for under 5s. It can also be where an organisation such as sure start will put on different classes to help parents right from the birth of their child through to educational classes for children. Three and four year olds can get 15 hours of free education at these providers.
• Nursery schools: - provide early learning and child care for children aged between 3 and 5 years old. They are often linked to a primary school but can be a business on its own.
• Childminders: - these are individual people who look after a few children at a time. They normally look after children from babies to 12 years of age. They charge by the hour for their services

Voluntary controlled schools are also known as religious or faith schools. They come under the local educational authority, who employ the staff and also provides the support services for the school. The charity appoints some of the members of the governing body although the local education authority is responsible for running the school. In a voluntary aided school, they are partly funded by the local education authority, partly by the charity and by the governing body, they will also employ their own staff.
