1.1 Explain why induction is important for practitioners, individuals, and organisations. Induction is an opportunity for an organisation to welcome their new recruit, help them settle in and ensure they have the knowledge and support they need to perform their role. For an employer, effective induction may also affect employee turnover, absenteeism and employer brand.

1.2 Identify information and support materials that are available to promote effective induction. Getting it right from the start is key to keeping staff long-term. We look at what to cover during the induction process.

What exactly will be needed during the induction period will vary by organisation and role, but some things are consistent for all. This includes making sure new starters feel welcomed, being on-hand to provide regular support, and ensuring they have the knowledge and resources they need to do their job effectively and support your organisation to deliver a safe, effective, responsive, well-led, and caring service.
