The class started off with barre then center combinations and ending with across the floor combinations. Throughout the class, some aspects came naturally to me while others were challenging. For example, I remembered ballet positions naturally throughout the class such as arabesque and the general five feet positions. These skills of feet placement and upper body posture that I was taught in the past helped me have a foundation before going into class as well as being helpful while learning complex combinations. During this class, I expected to jump back into ballet without much challenges. I was very wrong. Throughout our combinations and barre work, I struggled with memorizing combinations, the timing of the music, and completing a pirouette. Memorizing any kind of combination took more time for me to remember before the exercise and during as well. Within the timing aspect, I was usually off timing at the barre when it came to fast dégagés combinations. During our pirouette combination, I noticed how my balance and coordination was off to the point where I could not complete a full turn. This was a struggle for me during the class because I had to reteach my body how to coordinate a successful turn. I learned throughout this first class that even though I have been out of dance for two years, the dance form can still be challenging. I felt like I knew the basics of ballet, …show more content…
During the class, we started by warming up across the floor with lunges and turns, then stretched before completing a combination. I completed this class on March 12th with some simple aspects I completed as well as many challenges throughout the class. Some aspects that were simple for me to perform during the class were getting back into stretching and working out across the floor. I was surprised that I was memorizing the miniature combinations across the floor effectively quick and I was comfortable enough to hold a long stretch. I noticed that I have maintained my flexibility throughout the years. Also, I enjoyed the lungs and jumps across the floor that I always liked to complete in high school. Some challenges throughout the class were similar to ones in ballet as well as new ones. For example, timing and memorizing the song combination at the end of the class were difficult for me to conduct. I would either go too slow or too fast or I could not remember what came next in the piece. Also, I was still having a hard time doing a pirouette. This time, I was not spotting enough to complete a more coordinated turn. Some different struggles that came about during this class was how to create my own style within the piece taught and how to connect with the music. In lyrical, these aspects are important to bring uniqueness to the piece and having the body speak for the lyrics. I
