Rape is an unwanted sexual activity forced onto the victim. Sexual assault can be anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact. It has always been a controversial topic; It’s a worldwide issue. Being raped is a traumatic experience. It can cause mental and physical problems for the rest of your life. Would it be right to send rapists to death row? In my esteemed opinion, rapists should receive the death penalty.
Statistics of rape are rising. It’s becoming more and more of a common thing throughout the world. “Every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. Only 6 out of every 1,000 rapists will end up in prison. On average, there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. Ages 12-34 are the highest risk of sexual violence.”(raiin) There is a higher rate of sexual violence for a women/girl, although, men/boys are also affected. Transgenders are at a higher risk and Native Americans are at an even higher risk of sexual violence. Thousands of men and women in prisons across the country are affected. Many cases of sexual violence in the military goes unreported.
