Preston Gniadecki Block 1 4/29/24 Never Quit Have you ever heard of David Goggins? Or as most of you would know him as “the toughest man alive.” David Goggins coped with all of his challenges by working harder and never quitting. A retired Navy SEAL chief going by the name of David Goggins and is believed to be the only member of the armed forces to complete the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/s) course (including going through Hell Week three times), as well as U.S. Army Ranger School (where he graduated as honor man), and Air Force tactical air controller training (allhands.navy.mill). In 1981, Goggins lived in Williamsville, New York with his parents and brother, Trunnis Jr. When Goggins was 6 years old he worked at his dad's skating rink, he suffered constant abuse from his father. When he was 8, he escaped with his mom and brother. One of David’s most famous quotes is, “Pain unlocks a secret doorway in the mind, one that leads to both peak performance and beautiful silence”(parade.com). This means that pain will allow you to be your best and be at the top where no one else is. Likewise, another famous quote is "Always be ready to adjust, recalibrate, and stay after it to become better, somehow"(parade.com). This quote means that if something gets in your way, be ready to change or call an audible. David had many obstacles in life including being abused by his father, being 297 pounds, and getting injuries that made him fail hell twice. However, even after all of his challenges, David was still able to overcome all of the obstacles by working harder and never giving up.
