Daylight savings time affects your life more than many think. “About one-third of Americans say they don’t look forward to these twice-yearly time changes and nearly two-thirds would like to eliminate them completely,” according to Scientific American, which shows there's already a movement to get rid of daylight savings. Astronomer and entomologist, George Vernon Hudson, originally created the idea of daylight savings time in the 1890s. Using information from the New York Times, Germany started using daylight savings during World War I, hoping it would decrease energy production, and by 1966, the United States observed daylight savings time. In 1974, the United States experimented with daylight savings year-round, but it only lasted eight months due to its massive public unpopularity which led daylight savings to what it is today. Between 20 and 50 million more people suffer from non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a “disability” every car crash has an opportunity to harm or kill someone so any increase in car crash rates should be taken seriously. Using this information, there are more facts against daylight savings time than there are supporting it. Daylight savings have proven to do more harm than good. It has contributed to many health problems for people who may not be able to adjust to the change in time as easily, such as an increased rate of strokes and heart attacks in people, often caused by less sleep or the stress daylight savings creates on the body. With the decrease in sleep, many people will be less focused throughout the day. Adults and children alike struggle to get through the first couple of days after the time change.
