There were several limitations in the current study. Initially, the sample used in the study was made up of only 44 women who had parasuicidal behavior and borderline personality disorder. The study was also limited by excluded male participants, and “people who meet criteria for schizophrenia, bipolar, substance dependence, or mental retardation” (Linehan et al., 1991, p. 1064). Furthermore, it cannot be said for sure as to effectiveness of DBT with utilizing untrained therapists.
