Death is an intimidating and mysterious topic and who is to determine whether someone should live or die? Murder has corrupted streets of cities such as New Haven, Connecticut and Detroit, Michigan, but what punishment is strict enough for these murderers? Twenty years in a federal prison might scar an inmate enough to never even think about killing again, or it might not. If they are released America cannot guarantee to prevent these criminals from killing again. Family members of these lost loved ones seek revenge and that is where the idea of the death penalty comes in. It is the only method of guaranteeing that they will not strike again while still satisfying society by proving that they paid for their crimes. Although the death penalty seems to be a harsh punishment, it is the best method of punishment for the most devastating crimes if the suspect is rightfully accused through proof and evidence. Petty thieves and vandals should not be put to death, but rather the people who have intentionally killed another. You may have heard “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”, but a slap on the wrist will only show these criminals that they can continue to kill. Modern methods of execution in America consist of lethal injection, which is painless to the victim and works similar to anesthesia. This punishment would be considered extremely generous in other regions of the world such as Vietnam and Mexico who would prefer a beheading or firing squad. In 2007 Iran used suspension hanging on two seventeen and eighteen year old boys who were accused of being homosexuals. Suspension hanging is not like long drop hanging which breaks the neck of the victim, instead, the victim is constricted around the neck while still on the ground, then lifted into the air to eventually be suffocated. America is a very benevolent country in the way that we spend thousands of dollars on chemicals for gas chambers and injections that will peacefully kill the victim. I am not fond of death and wish that the death penalty would never have to be used on anyone, but unfortunately we live on an earth full of sick people. We must find a way to discourage these murderers or we will always be at their mercy. We are all familiar with Adam Lanza and curious about what encouraged him to shoot twenty innocent, helpless children at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. If Lanza did
