(Defender), established in 1998, is one of the leading satellite and security providers to installed ADT security systems and Dish Network Satellite Television in homes throughout the United States of America. In 1998 Dave Lindsey, founder and CEO of Defender Direct, started the company from his home with only $30,000 to start-up Defender. In 2008 Defender generated revenues of over $150 million. Defender was also ranked 387th out of 500 of America’s fastest growing companies by Fortune 500. The organizations national growth could be attributed to an aggressive door-to-door marketing strategy. Defender should push the importance of the organizations culture strategy- relationship, and continuously connect its employees with Defenders mission and purpose. A clear mission statement can encourage employees to work towards achieving Defenders strategic plan. When employees have a well-defined mission, they know what the organization expects of them. Strategic, future-focused thinking, planning, communication and outreach, based on the organization’s vision and mission, are all leadership responsibilities linked to good managerial control in an organizations management and leadership abilities.

The best approach for Defender is to continually establish and reinforce policies and strategies that enable an empowered organizational culture. Assessing and evaluating its organizational culture and performance allows for leaders to go from micro-managing the organization’s work, to redirecting the organizations mission and vision-based focus to governance issues. It also allows for stakeholders and other funding opportunities to see true commitment and dedication to Defender’s roles and responsibilities, while conjuring a more engaged and higher performing organization (Board Source, 2010).
