Defunding the Police Essay “Therefore whoever resists the author resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgement”(New International Version,Romans 13:2). God has appointed people like the police to make sure people are doing the right thing. Defunding the police would be going against God’s Word. Defunding police causes increased crime rates, makes less officers in general, and causes there to be more police brutality. Defunding the police makes the crime rate go up. A first piece of evidence is, “In the 1st week of 2021, New York Shootings were up 81%”(Thune 1). In California, car jackings are up 88%”(Thune 1). Defunding the police is affecting people all over the US, and is affecting thousands of peoples lives. People are taking this movement, and using it to take advantage of the police. Some people claim these rates rose because of Covid, but that does not make sense when coincidentally all this happens after police are defunded. Defunding the police increased crime rate. Defunding police makes officers less effective in general. “Why would men and women sign up for a job where they are characterized as the worst kind of criminal”(Thune 1). This is a great question. Why would people do a hard job for little pay and get ridiculed? This is resulting in fewer officers in general, and more importantly, fewer quality officers. Another great piece of evidence is, “It is a lot harder to replace good, seasoned officers, when it is hard to see who would want to be an officer now”(Thune 1). A lot of veteran officers are retiring because of pay cuts, leaving big holes to fill. In times like this it is almost impossible to find qualified people who want to be low paying police
