The dental hygienist job outlook is growing much faster than average jobs. Once you get into the dental program you will typically have a two year program to complete. According to the BLS the median pay is $34.38/hour which is more than double what the assistant makes; so the extra year of schooling to be a hygienist definitely pays off. Hygienists clean teeth, apply protectant, take X-rays, and instruct patients how to properly take care of their teeth. With this job I will also be able to work with a variety of different ages and personalities and there is opportunities to expand my career if I choose
