The story about Desiree's Baby is pretty straight forward, The mother and father are both fair skinned and they have a child together. The child actually comes out dark meaning that someone or has traces of African American heritage in their past. In the story, the character Armand says "that child is not white; it means you are not white." (75) But this cannot be because she looks white right? Well not really, you see Desiree was left on the doorstep when she was a little baby and was left there to be taken care of. Pride is one of the 7 deadly sins. In the story we see a proud Armand, "oh, Armand is the proudest father in the parish, I believe, chiefly because it is a boy to bear his name...." (74) it shows that he was proud of his child finally bearing his own name. He wanted the world to know that he was the father because he loved himself that much. He was proud but when he found out the true nature of the baby he regretted it because of the skin color. He was in fact so deep in shock about what happened that he even stopped loving his wife and sent her away as it says on page 76. "Do you want me to go" she asked and Armand responded with "yes, I want you to go". He had so much pride that when he found the true new he didn't know what to do eventually sending away his own wife and kids.
