Jena Sandoval Elementary Spanish Cultural Reflection Hispanic culture values family and the time family spends together. We can see some examples on television as movies and shows come out explaining qualities that many grow up experiencing. Personally, my favorite example is Dia De Los Muertos. This holiday is also known as Day of the Dead. A beautiful and spiritual holiday is when the loved ones that have passed are able to visit us and receive offerings. This is one of the most important times as a family that has passed is honored with beautiful celebrations entranced in lively music and love. During Dia De Los Muertos, families honor loved ones by arranging an offrenda in their homes with beautiful decorations, photos, and offerings. These …show more content…
When I honor a family, it usually comes in stories as well as photos. Maybe getting someone’s favorite meal on their birthday or getting something they love as a keepsake. Obviously this can be any day, not exclusively one night of the year. Music plays a vital role in the motivation of life. Very little people in America knows what it means to be respectful of elders. In every culture, we see an area of storytelling. Whether its legend, folklore or origin stories. Storytelling is a fantastic way to keep stories and lessons alive for the future generations. These stories hold valuable life lessons. Some lessons of trial and tribulation as well as challenges and dreams of those before them. Often, the narratives are seen as steppingstones to guide growing souls and help form them into insightful young adults. I loved hearing stories of my great grandparents. One passed when I was in 4th grade, and one passed when I was in 6th grade. Because I was so young, I don’t have many personal memories with them, but hearing stories of things they did and places they went helps me feel closer to them. So many aspects of the Hispanic traditions surrounding Dia Do Los Muertos can be seen all over the world. From honoring family to musical traditions, to keeping stories alive and much more. This one holiday is held deeply in so many hearts because of the feelings and comfort it brings. The practices of each tradition I have mentioned all have one thing in common: you must always honor your
