My senior paper is about why diesels have such a bad reputation. Most importantly the causes and affects diesels have in our environment. This paper covers health affects environment affects and the reasons why there reputation is bad. It was mid week, my dad had just got home from work, I was only about 13 years old. A week before he had gone to Utah to buy a Dodge 2500 Cummins turbo diesel truck. I knew nothing about motors or cars at the time, but I did know It was a black, lifted tall truck, with big wide black wheels. He had just got home and told me to go out for a drive with him just up and down the road and into town. My dad had just gotten his truck tuned with a new exhaust but he didn’t tell me anything when I had already walked …show more content…
There are pros to today’s diesel cars they are much quieter and smoother than previous years. Also are cons they aren't as smooth and quiet as a gasoline powered engine and pollute more. Diesels are dirty the smoke is particulate matter from the diesel exhaust of chemicals produced by the engine. The government is putting on DPF systems on diesel trucks which is is a diesel particulate filter. It removes 95 percent of smoke. The smoke gets trapped inside a ceramic matrix, stays there until the cars computer says it’s okay to release the emissions it’s called a regeneration cycle. If your diesel car/ truck is 2007 or later it’s not any dirtier than a gasoline powered car. Diesel engines produce less carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines. It conflicts when diesel engines with Dpf systems are burning 10 miles per gallon and when diesel owners take the dpf which is illegal and are getting 18-20 miles per gallon. With the Dpf supposubly they are burning better the fumes but if they are giving less miles to the gallon that's the faster those gallons of fuel burn and pollute the environment faster. Another reason they didn't sell as much in America years ago as in Europe is because their dirty emissions. Emission standards in America are more stricter than Europe’s and didn't …show more content…
Diesel carry that particulate matter that carries cancer and also respiratory effects. According to () eventually the government will have to start banning diesel cars and trucks with engines that produce that particulate matter. Particulate causes poor heart health by 2040 the government plans to have all diesels banned and replaced with electric cars. Diesels have become a very common scene in cities all around the world. Three major cities, Paris, Mexico city, Madrid have plans to have all diesel vehicles banned by 2025. A major summit was held in Mexico City in Nov of 2016. Electric vehicles seemed to be the popular vote of how to help the environment with the pollution and health impacts. In the summit it was said that “It was no secret that here in Mexico city we have problems of air pollution and traffic”- Mayor of Mexico
