Although being in the military has its advantages, there are several reasons why it’s difficult. Some soldiers find it hard spending time away from family, going through physical and mental strains, and adjusting to a structured schedule. When asked what the most difficult thing about being in the military was, the most common answer was, “Time away from family”. While these people are working hard to keep this country free, they are missing out on a valuable thing; friends and family. As their love ones continue with their lives, people in the military will have to rely on e-mail, social networks, or phone calls to keep in contact. Although, it’s not always that simple, when in active duty soldiers are not allowed to tell their location or reason for mission. The most they can say is, “I’m doing fine”. Imagine if one had a wife and a newborn at home. Most haven’t held their own child for the first time and missed birthdays and holidays. When one is responsible for an x amount of lives, watching your troops go down in front of you could be traumatic. But most soldiers strive for such an honorable role.
