Members of the group were all responsible for the delivery of front line operational policing in both uniform and detective capacity. A group interview format was devised to provide a structure in the topics discussed around the understanding, concept and use of discretion. The relationship between individual leadership in the use of discretion to resolve issues, use of discretion within the remit of domestic abuse; situations and links to performance measures; training; standards; safeguarding; management of risk and accountability aligned to domestic abuse were explored.
