Discrimination After Reconstruction

Most people think that after the reconstruction era failed, the civil rights movement came and everything was fixed. The problems that were created during the Reconstruction era of not being able to back up and support the African Americans from the discrimination that they faced even after laws were in place. The reconstruction era was able to help out the African Americans through implementing the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, although these laws were in place, the government was not able to protect the African Americans from the discrimination that they faced later. Again, this was solved, or at least thought it was solved during the civil rights movement, through the Civil Rights Act of 1964. One of the examples that we still have today is during immigration, and this sort of discrimination is not new, it’s been here since the early 1800s. We personally may not have faced discrimination, but for the people who have, only they know the sort of feeling that is inside them. In Fact “discrimination has been identified as a major stressor and influence on immigrant health” as stated by the National Library of Medicine. Not just that, but, everyone today even identifies that racism is a major issue today, as the NBC News reports state that “64 percent of Americans say racism remains a major problem” although what have we done to solve it? There are so many examples out there today of racism that it may seem impossible to get this mindset out of people's minds, of people judging people like this based on their race. Although it may seem like this, it can be solved much more effectively if just everyone is aware of this
