• The relation between probation reports and the Canadian Criminal Justice system is that probation reports are imposed by a criminal court judge; it is restricted only to provincial/territorial offenders, but is still an alternative for federal offenders, who’s sentence equals two years. Probation may be used in unification with a period of detention. Requires offenders to abide by the specified conditions, and additional conditions related to the offender’s lifestyle. If the offender breaches his or her conditions, it can be charged under the Criminal Code; Probation officers use discretion in deciding whether to charge the offender with a breach of conditions.
