How do investigators solve a crime scene and identify who was involved? The world needs a method of solving crimes, otherwise people will get seriously injured or killed and conflict would rise. Figure 1 shows the rate of violent crimes worldwide with some crime cases decreasing, but some cases increasing. These statistics lead to serious consequences, and money is wasted by the failure of investigations. The main failures that are done during an investigation are to preserve life and the scene, to secure evidence, and to identify the victim, witnesses, and suspect. In this essay, I will be talking about the how DNA profiling is used to solve crime scenes. I will also be looking at the ethical factors about the DNA profiling for crime scenes. I determine whether DNA profiling is an effective method for investigation and solving crime scenes. …show more content…
This is to accurately identify the manner of death (what weapon is used) and whom the attacker or victim is who has left any kind of identification sample like fingerprints at the scene of the crime. The sample would contain DNA of the person, and is used to identify who the person is. This DNA sample would be called a profile and is found within the nucleus of cells. There are different methods that can identify and analyze DNA. Those are Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms (RFLPs), Variable Number of Tandem Repeats loci (VNTRs), Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) that is also known as Microsatellites. I will be focusing on the PCR-STR method, which are two methods combined to create a more efficient amplification. “This combined method was created by Peter Gill to enable the simultaneous analysis of multiple STRs that is a tactic called multiplexing.”
