The article that I found is on effective leadership. It is titled, “Do Narcissists Make Good Leaders? Think Trump,” and was published on October 25, 2015 on Newsweek.com. It is written by Ross Roberts, Chin Wei Ong, and Tim Woodman, and they studied how one’s personality can influence how effective of a leader they are, specifically looking at narcissistic personalities. They found that narcissistic people perform well when they are able to be recognized for being great but in the long run do not seem to be well liked. What they concluded from their research was that people with narcissistic behavior are usually picked as leaders, and seem to be good leaders at first, but eventually end up being disliked by their followers. As a leader, one should be able to influence and impact their followers. The article states that people often choose narcissistic people as leaders because they seem confident in themselves. The downfall to narcissistic leaders is that they are usually vain and do not give enough attention to others. Narcissistic people tend to do well when put in situations where they are under a lot of pressure because their results typically end with praise. The article says that since narcissists are so focused on themselves that they are tough people to work with in groups. This is relatable to what we discussed in class with group work and teams. There could lead to lots of conflict between group members. In this case, the conflict would probably be bad conflict because it is dealing with personalities.
