1754-1763
French and Indian war-a war between France and Britain. The British won the war and was now in control of more land. It is important because it was a very expensive war that lasted 9 years, also the British got a lot of land from it.

1764
Sugar Act- A three-cent tax on sugar and an increased taxes on other things such as coffee, indigo, and wines. It is important because it made the American colonists want to revolt and change things.

March 22, 1765
Stamp Act- A tax put on every newspaper, pamphlet, and every document had to have a stamp or British seal on it. This made the colonist mad and caused them to protest against it and form riots. The Americans believed in "rights of Englishmen" which meant that certain activities were not allowed if they had no representation. This is important because it led to the Boston Tea Party.

1773
Tea Act- The British lowered the price of tea and would get all the profits from it. It is important because this point the Colonist were sick and tired of the way they were being treated which led to the Boston Tea Party.

December 16, 1773
Boston Tea Party-A new taxes was put on tea which left the American colonists angry and lead to them dumping out crates or tea into the Boston Harbor. It was important because it gave the colonists motivation to stand up for their rights and get the independence they wanted.

April 18, 1775
Lexington and Concord- First shots fired between American and British troops. It is important because that is what started it all.

Declaration of Independence- a letter to the King of England explaining why they were fighting to be their own country. It is important because

Articles of Confederation- The first document that gave the states power over the federal government. It is important because it helped to draft the Constitution.

July 16, 1787
The Great Compromise- An agreement made among the delegates that made the American government into two houses in Congress. It is important because it ended the disagreements among the states and made them all feel equal.

June 21, 1788
Ratification of Constitution- The Constitution was finished and approved by all states. It is important because it brought all the states together and has affected the way America is today.

Explain how the event above lead to the event below: The Tea Act was one of the many ways the British used their power to get money from the Colonist. The Colonist didn't like the idea of them being in control and made them very angry which lead to the Boston Tea Party.

Explain how the event above lead to the event below: As a way of rebelling the Colonist dumped crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. The Colonist wanted out of being under control of the British and wrote a letter to the King of England.
