Early on in the movie, the movie shows some people from the sons of liberty which were historically there and others which were not. Paul Revere and Doctor Joseph Warren that were huge political and social influences during that time are just a few of the ones that were actually there in that time period. In the movie, the rebels were polite to the captain. They asked the captain for the keys to get to the tea from below the ship's deck. Also, they cleaned up the ship of the tea that they dumped overboard, and they did not harm anybody or anything. According to several sources, the asking of the keys, cleaning of the ship, and their act of nonviolence are all accurate. The one thing that was not shown in the movie is that they actually dumped tea out of three ships and not just one like the movie shows. In one part of the scene, the sons of liberty are marching back from dumping out the tea and hang up lights in a tree. On the march to the tree, the sons of liberty sing about the liberty tree, so it is safe to assume the tree they hang the lights from is the liberty tree. There is no historical evidence of the sons of liberty ever hanging up lights in the tree but, it was a symbol of revolution at the time and is a part of history today.
