Background on the Doctors:

During the civil war most doctors only received two years of medical training, making them highly incapable and unqualified to help people. America’s medicine was severely behind Europe’s, America did not even own a single stethoscope or microscope until after the war. Most Civil War doctors have never performed surgery or treated a gunshot wounds. They didn’t know about infection, so they did not clean or use sterile instruments. As a result many died from typhoid and dysentery.

The Medical Treatments:

Doctors on the warfront knew nothing on the germ theory, which is the theory that microorganisms invade human and animals and cause disease, so they didn’t have sterile tools. They often operated 48 to 72 hours
