Training Tips
1. Use love as motivation rather than punishment. Training can be frustrating for your dog. Chances are that he wants to make you happy and do what you want. Every time your dog does something right, make it clear by looking extremely happy, giving exciting praise, petting your him, and/or giving him a treat. Use this technique as you teach your dog tricks.
For example. many people teach their dog to sit by saying the command, then pushing down on their dog's rear end. Instead, you can speak the command and hold a treat up. Put it in front of your dog's face and pull it upward. As the dog brings his head upward to look at the treat, his back end should automatically move down into the sitting position. Don't expect too much all at once. It will take time for your dog to learn what you want, and expecting a huge change all at once will make things frustrating for both of you. A puppy will be easier to train than an older dog, and the change will occur more quickly. Natural dog behaviors can be especially difficult to break; these are things such as digging, barking, and jumping up. As you practice and work with your dog, there will be small improvements over
