Imagine being in the military line-up and the one and only Winston Churchill walked by you. Or even yet having Douglas MacArthur stops to talk to you. I don’t know about you but I would be excited. Well, in World War two that was a normal thing, have those amazing people talk to you each and every day. It was not always like this, sure they were famous but in the war you were just as important as them. Winston Churchill liked to be with the people. A lot of people found him to be inspiring. He never gave up no matter what the task was. He was very loyal. Douglas MacArthur once said, “Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul” …show more content…
He was born in England. Winston was born into one of the most famous families in Great Britain. He was a descendant of John Churchill, the First Duke of Marlborough. Winston’s father was the Dukes third son. Under an old English custom, only the eldest son inherits the title and palace. So Winston’s father had to find a career, so he chose politics. Winston’s father was the first to be elected to the House of Commons, that was a year before Winston was born. Winston’s father showed little to no confidence in his son. Winston’s father died in 1895. When Winston was the age of seven Winston’s parents sent him to a boarding school that Winston hated. Winston wanted to play polo if you don’t know polo is a game on a horse. At the age of twenty-one, Winston became apart of the British military. Britain had promised to defend. Later Britain found themselves fall into war(Hamilton). Churchill believed the navy might be able to help them to win the land war (Dowswell). Churchill became Prime Minister on May of 1940. Three days late Churchill gave one of the most famous speeches in British history. Churchill led a nation to war. He was scared because he knew that Adolf Hitler was a threat, he had the Nazi soldiers (Hamilton). A few people took Churchill seriously. Great Britain lacked the airplanes and military equipment(Hamilton). That made him mad so he lead an invasion.Churchill led an invasion in 1943. The invasion was designed to liberate the Italian Peninsula. In a few months the Southern front went against Germany, the fighting got harder as the kept going North (Knauer). By September of 1944 a lot has been accomplished. Rome has been in Allied hands for three months. Rome has been captured on the day before D-day(Knauer). Churchill and the Allied commanders prepared for Operation Overload, that was the name giving for D-day the invasion of France (Hamilton). Churchill was told that ten more squadrons were necessary if the Battle of France was to be won by Paul Reynaud
