Rolling to Success in the Healthcare Industry: One Spoke at a Time
The healthcare industry is one of the most complex industries in America. Healthcare organizations experience a constant evolution as a result of social, political, and environmental changes, just to name a few. In addition to employing astute physicians who specialize in numerous areas, healthcare organizations must develop a strategy conducive to providing efficient, convenient healthcare to patients across a vast region. One definitive indicator of success, in all models of healthcare, is when patients have a good experience, their health is improved, overall, and the cost of their healthcare is a lower “per capita” cost in comparison to existing healthcare models. Studies suggest the concept of the dyad leadership model would is most beneficial to patients (Clausen, 2017). Even though clinical decisions are directed more by physician leaders and administrative decisions are driven more by administrative leaders, the actuality is that dyad leadership pairs are in constant contact with each other. This involves all members of the organization, but is measured at the spoke level. It is important to provide the right conditions for the employee to perform his or her responsibilities each day. The result is engaged employees, committed to their jobs, committed to the organization’s goals, and motivated to succeed in the organization. While the focus is on gaining employee engagement from these employees, one should remember to not associate discretionary efforts in an attempt to manipulate employees into appearing to be engagement.
