Being a special education student does not mean someone is unknowledgeable. “One in five people have learning differences”( New Virginia Dyslexia Law, Small Step in a Big Direction). These learning differences can make it harder to do certain activities because of the way the brain is wired. If someone is dyslexic it may take him or her more of an effort to become a reader then a non-dyslexic child. Being dyslexic does not mean it is impossible to become a reader, it just makes it harder because dyslexic children use a different part of their brain compared to non-dyslexic children. Many students with learning differences take a little longer to understand certain concepts, so the child needs to go a little slower, or reach out and receive extra help from another source. Dyslexic children need one on one help to break down the material, (New Virginia Dyslexia Law, Small Step in a Big Direction). The children need not such a rigid program (New Virginia Dyslexia Law, Small Step in a Big Direction). Children can become frustrated when trying to understand a concept that does not make sense to them. To pacify their anxiety someone can help them break down the material so they can do their work. Understanding a brain that is wired differently takes a while to fully understand; however, people who do understand the brain can help dyslexic children learn better. Many people do not know that children struggle from it and these children are not given the correct support to thrive. I created a public service announcement, PSA, to help spread the word about dyslexia. It eludes me as to why there are so many dyslexic children, yet so many people do not know what dyslexia is. It is a real travesty that so many children struggle in school because of this lack of understanding. Several people try to empathize with dyslexic children because they have also struggled in school, but dyslexic children can thrive under the right conditions. My younger brother, Harper, is dyslexic, and when he was at his old school he could not remember how to spell his name or the alphabet, but at his new school that supports dyslexic children he is reading extremely well, and spelling well. Creating the public service announcement allowed me to realize who needs to be informed about dyslexia, so children do not have to struggle in school when it is not necessary. Spreading the word about dyslexia would help many children, and that is why I decided to create the public service
