The progressive era was so effective because of the events that were happening in America at the time, it was a “period of explosive economic growth, fueled by increasing industrial production, a rapid rise in population, and the continued expansion of the consumer marketplace”.

The journalists, “muckraking” at this drew attention to thee unjust and immoral acts brought against the common people. The common people were given new protections with laws regulating industries, such as meatpacking, produce and markets. Economic freedom was the major reason for immigration at this time.
