Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts (Edgar Allan Poe Biography). Poe was the second child of three, but his father had left the family early on and his mother died when he was three. Edgar then later on was separated from his siblings because he went to go live with John and Frances Allan in Richmond, Virginia. In 1826 he went to the University of Virginia, a year later around 1827 he joined the war. Within those two years that he wasn’t in Richmond his foster mother Frances Allan died due to the illness of Tuberculosis (Poe’s Life).
