Education Should Be Taught In High Schools

Only 1 in 4 high school students graduate college-ready in the four core subjects of English, reading, math and science. The education system puts so much pressure on excelling in these subjects, but, there is still a less then mediocre outcome. The statistics are showing that the North American form of learning is failing. Yet, the education system is doing nothing to change that and is still expecting students to succeed. High schools are not preparing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel after graduation. It should be necessary to make sure that students are able to choose what they wish to learn more about. If it is impossible to explain why a subject is applicable to most people's lives, then the subject should not be mandatory.
The main subjects such as English, math, and science should definitely be introduced to students. However, after middle school, students should be allowed to choose what subjects they would like to learn more about. Picking their own subjects would encourage students to learn better. What they decide on will more then likely be something they are interested in learning about. Forcing them to learn about something that they find difficult or unappealing, causes students to have a lack of interest in learning more.

Some English classes spend half of the semester learning about the play "Romeo and Juliet" and other Shakespeare plays alike. Whether they were good plays or not has nothing to do with it. There is no way most people will ever need to know the storyline to Romeo and Juliet in their day to day life, it was a complete waste of school time.
