So many years after the Holocaust, one might have heard about the Eight Stages of Genocide. A timeline of events used to categorize and point out stages in past genocides, to help prevent future ones. How can we compare tactics used by Nazi Germany to justify and begin their extermination of Jews–and other minorities, to events that have happened since then? We can use events in the Holocaust–and other genocides and racist actions taken by groups–to stand up against these violations, by going through the timeline of the Eight Stages of Genocide. She worries that misinformation and language that conflates Muslims with terrorists will have dire impacts on brown people in the U.S. and beyond.” This is the same kind of language and ideas used by the Nazi’s to brew hate to gain more political power. Like statements by Donald Trump where he promises to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, accompanied by thunderous applause. While it’s absurd to think statements like that are allowed to happen–with no substantial consequences and even a reward for such efforts a whole year later–the reason why a country would allow statements such as that be said and be held by a person in power, is probably because they want it. The logic of the concentration camps was to find a use for Jews. Put them to work in tinsmiths or shoe shops until their usefulness has run out. Or just kill them for fun as seen in books like Maus where you can see examples of Nazi soldiers purposely setting up Jews for assassination. There isn’t much knowledge to extract from this stage, at least in comparison to the other ones. The average human doesn’t have to search much within themselves to begin revolting against the relentless murder of an entire race, and it’s not worth spending our time questioning why these people act this way.
