World War II is considered one of the deadliest wars in history. It started when Germany decided to invade Poland, but who knew it was going to cause 75 million people to die and 6 million of them were Jews? It lasted from 1939 - 1945. During this period, the Holocaust began. The Diary of Anne is a Jewish girl's diary about her and her family hiding from the Nazis from 1942 - 1944. The events of the Holocaust affected the Frank family's lives by completely changing what they were used to.

On July 6, 1942, the Frank family moved into the “Secret Annex” joined by the Van Daan family one week later. When they were getting ready to leave, the Frank family had to leave their home a mess that seemed as if they were just abducted. In the book of the play, the evidence is cited on page 16. The Frank family gets the annex ready so they can move in and join the Van Daans to avoid getting sent to the concentration camps by the Natzis. At this point, the Nazis were sending 4,400 Jews every day, on average, to concentration camps.
