Hilary Lehman, a writer for the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, said, “Some see military academies as the best path to their chosen careers. Others cite the scholarship money as a deciding factor. A few look forward to the organized, regimented lifestyle” (Lehman). Soldiers have so many different reasons for enlisting in the military that it is impossible to list them all, but no matter what that reason is, it is still good that these people exist and are brave enough to enlist. If there was no reason to join, what would America be? Troy, an air force veteran, said, “I ran out of money after one year at Winona State. I worked at a bowling alley and bowled on a team. One of the other bowling team members was an Air Force recruiter”(Sabby). His reason for joining might not have been the bravest of reasons, but he was brave enough to join the military and that is more than some people. Remembering why they enlisted in the military and how they had to go through basic training is important. It is also important to remember how the Security Forces is one of the largest careers in the Air Force and to remember the daily life of our veterans. The soldiers join the military with big hopes and dreams to serve their country and they have to go through intense training in bootcamp to start up their journey. Soldiers join the military for a multitude of reasons ranging from needing the money/scholarships to wanting to serve the country. One part of the military, the Security Forces, is an important part of air base security, and veterans and soldiers can have a pretty normal life even if they give themselves to their country. Veterans of the United States military are very valuable to the way the country runs and must be remembered in many different ways. Some ways they should be remembered are their basic training and some branches of the military such as the Security Forces. Other things such as their reasons for enlisting and their daily lives they had are also important to remember. Like Elmer Davis once said, our nation will be the land of the free only as long as there are many brave people that are willing to protect it. The United States needs to remember and honor these soldiers and veterans as much as it can because they are risking
