Environmental Project Number One
Phone Chargers and Saving Energy
For my environmental health project I committed to unplugging my phone charger when I wasn’t using it. I have been doing this since the second week of class when we first discussed our projects. Unplugging your phone charger may seem like a small act towards helping out our environment, but if you do it consistently and encourage others to do the same, it will add up. The first few days I had a hard time remembering to unplug my charger, but after that it became an easy habit that can really add up to make a big difference.
As well as making the effort to keeping my own charger unplugged while I’m not using it I told all of my suitemates to do the same. I am on the Women’s Wrestling team here at University of the Cumberlands, and I also had Coach Stephens allow me to make an announcement at the end of practice explaining my project, and the contribution it can make towards helping out the environment and saving energy and encouraged them to try to commit to it and to encourage everyone that they know to do the same. There are 45 girls on my team. If half of them remember to unplug their chargers and encourage suite mates, roommates, and families to do the same, imagine the difference it can make!
