Equal Protection Clause
The Fourteenth Amendment is all about creating equal protection under the law. The Equal Protection Clause of the fourteenth amendment took effect in 1868. The clause stated that no state will deny any person equal protection under the law. This was to prevent state and local jurisdiction from passing laws that were discriminatory in nature, making it illegal for states to pass laws that benefit only certain groups of people. After the Civil War, Black Codes were passed. Black Codes were laws passed in southern states that mandated the segregation
