Many people struggle with buying proper, and healthy food for their family right now, so if we continue to manufacture less amounts of crops, these people will have no choice but to give them up completely. Furthermore, California has been in a drought for the past three years and everyone is being affected by it in a negative way. Both the citizens and agriculturists have been suffering and facing an immense conflict about who should be in control of water usage. The Farm Bureau should have the authority to control the aquifer because if California were to be in the citizen’s favor, the economy would drop at an enormous rate. “As water levels sink, the land can sink, too — in some places by about a foot per year. Groundwater pumping could also put more stress on the San Andreas Fault” (Source 3). Since many drillers are digging large and deep holes throughout California, trying to make wells for the persistent citizens, it is becoming a treacherous hazard that’s causing the ground to collapse and form sinkholes. California is widely known for its earthquakes, and since the ground is caving, it’s adding more pressure to the San Andreas Fault, that could cause one of the most tremendous earthquakes known. In addition, the drilling is also causing the farmers and constructors to pay large expenses, as seen in this quote“Right where a brand new almond orchard will be planted in rural Fresno County, a 70-foot high drilling rig bores a hole in the earth 2,500 feet deep. This well will cost the farmer about a million dollars” (Source 3). This shows that since the drillings in the ground are causing cave ins, some of them are in areas where farmers planned on planting and people planned on constructing.
