Implementing Western ideas, China began to embrace some capitalist reforms. Rulers let their citizens have more freedom, allowing some private ownership of business, as opposed to the government owning all industry. China even began to partner with the United States through Special Economic Zones (SEZs), areas that made it easier to conduct global business and increase their prosperity.
