Class privilege is defined as a bias or judgement based on one’s social class, including socioeconomic status and resources they may or may not have. It is one of the biases that I feel gets the most overlooked in society, which is how the top 1% of America gets away with making over 300 times the amount of the bottom 20%. I would describe my family’s social class as somewhere in the middle, and has changed over time. We have had the upper-middle class status with the nice suburban home in a nice, safe neighborhood with a country club, but we have also had the lower-middle class status of having to move away from those luxuries into a family member’s household. I believe it is important to realize how easily class privilege is engraved into our day-to-day culture, and how we relate race with class when they are instead separate classifications. It is often assumed that minorities come from lower-class families, while white families are all upper-class. Although class and race may have correlations, they do not define one another and it is important that they are looked at separately.

White privilege affects all the categories above, in addition to many more. It is unfair to other races that just because I am white, means I usually tend to have more opportunities and higher salaries than them. However, I am also a female, which means my gender is non-dominant compared to males. This also is reflected with a wage gap, and it is unfair that women with the same qualifications as men are preferred for the same job or even a higher salary. It is important to realize your own privileges and disadvantages in society, so that you may strive to close these social gaps until it is
