In the science fiction story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. we are 65 years into the future, where the government has made everyone equal. Harrison, being a fourteen year old boy, wanted to overthrow the handicapper generals and free everybody from the handicaps. Bergeron was an antagonist that was nefarious, athletic and opinionated.
First of all, the ballerinas were all stopped as a news reporter interrupted. The man had a speech impediment and couldn’t read it, so one of the ballerina's got up and read for him how Harrison had escaped from jail and “should be regarded as extremely dangerous.” “I repeat do not - try to reason with him”. This cold quote alone shows how cruel he was and how the people feared him. As he is in the studio he states “I am emperor! Do you hear me? I am emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once!” showing how he is not afraid to take control. Once he said this, with at snap of his finger he had a Empress and musicians under his control without the handicaps with the rest of the ballerinas and some others cowering down. Nobody wants a control freak as a emperor, nor do they want to be in a bad place as before. The H-G mean had killed the boy before he had a chance to continue what he was planning, and they made the people but their handicaps back in immediately. He had a chance to take over, and continue to make the “Dark ages” better by still being in control, but failed miserably. Harrison Bergeron, a 14 year old boy who wanted to overthrow the government and become the emperor did not succeed. He was an antagonist who was just a bit to full of himself and got killed because of
