The Louisiana Purchase was a 828,00 square mile land area purchased from France in 1803. The region was under French rule from the year 1699-1762. It was only until 1762 because the land was given to Spain as a present from France due to their alliance. It was like this until the aspirations of Napoleon Bonaparte lead France to take the land back from Spain in 1800. The louisiana purchase contained the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, parts of Minnesota, and the part of Louisiana west of the Mississippi River.
