The Glass Castle is a nonfiction book about Jeannette Walls life. Most of the time when I read the Glass Castle I did not connect with Jeanette and what she went through. Jeannette’s parents could not hold a job which caused her family to run out of money. She also dealt with starvation and bullies all through her childhood. I grew up almost the opposite of her; My family is very relaxed, easy going, financially stable, and organized. My sister’s and I have a few rules that we have to follow. We do not have a curfew, but we are responsible to answer our phones whenever my parents call or text which usually gives us directions to come home at a certain time. Throughout my high school career have have noticed many differences between myself and other students within my grade. The most important difference is that I do not feel like I need to plot revenge plans on others if they made a mistake instead I have learned to forgive them. Another reason I feel different from others within my grade is that I do not judge others off of mistakes, faults, and their past. Even though these differences are very minor I feel like they make a big difference, which helps me connect with Jeannette in the aspect of not fitting in. Not fitting in is one of the continuous themes throughout the book, The Glass Castle; in this part of the book I found it easier to understand Jeannette. All throughout my school life I have felt like I have never really fit in. The main reason I feel this way is because I am more mature than other students in my grade. I have been taught by my family man skills that caused me mature quickly. Even though I do not feel like I fit into high school or middle school I will not let my differences hold me back in
