On February 1944, there was a significant accident at the Royal Ordnance workshop in Kirby, Lancashire. In one building 19 employees were putting together platters of anti-tank mine fuses when a single fuse went off, exploring the rest of the fuses in the tray. The Daily Telegraph disclosed what happened, apparently, the woman putting together the platter of fuses was killed instantly and her body disintegrated; two females standing behind, her body slightly shielded the two women from the blast. Both females who were behind her were seriously injured. The factory was horribly destroyed, the roof was gone, electric fittings were swaying precariously, and one of the walls was dangling in the breeze. You would think sewing wouldn't be that dangerous, and the sewing itself wasn't dangerous. It was the lack of health and safety regulations that were in place during world war 2, in the triangle shirtwaist factory anyway. The factory is owned by Isaac Harris and Max Blanck, on March 25th, 1911 145 workers died in a fire that started because one worker threw away a lit cigarette in a rag bin full of flammable cloth.
