A crime scene must be examined thoroughly by experts with intent to recover potential evidence that can produce results considered beneficial for explaining the occurrence. In some cases, a complex crime scene can encourage several agencies to combine their unique expertise to enhance investigation production. For this reason, it is important to devise a plan for evidence recovery, chiefly, to reduce the possibility of destroying or contaminating evidence. For instance, a crime scene involving a Mexican drug cartel crashing a plane containing a shipment of drugs and firearms in Texas can attract federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Texas state law enforcement. Individually, these agencies have an important skillset to contribute, therefore, evidence analysis should be assigned according to their strengths. Specifically, a biologist would be able to perform DNA profiling by using the blood samples and body parts to identify victims that was on the plane and in the farmhouse. Furthermore, a criminalist would use their expertise and skills to perform a series of test to discover what type of drug was being smuggled. Lastly, a firearm investigator will be accountable for finding out what kind of guns were being illegally transported and where they derived from. All in all, solving this investigation will depend strictly on federal agencies such as the FBI, DEA and ATF. They must piece together all provided evidence to determine what Mexican cartel was behind the smuggling of drugs and firearms, and where they were being delivered
