Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the process of collecting, processing, and implementing research findings to improve clinical practice, the work environment, or patient outcomes. According to the American Nursing Association (ANA), the nursing interventions should be practical, methodical decision based on EBP research studies. EBP approach to nursing practice helps us provide the highest quality and most cost-efficient patient care possible. Two areas of nursing practice which EBP had improved patients’ care are fall prevention programs and prevention and care of patients with pressure ulcers.

Environment: Examine the environment for wet areas, clutter, poor lighting, loose rugs, etc. to prevent falls. Call light nearer to the patient and educate staff on announcing call lights timely. Putting patients frequently used items adjacent to them. All this helps to reduce the number of falls and cost in treating fall-related injuries.
The nurse caring for a patient with decubitus ulcer needs to thoroughly assess the patient and the wound and then review the research to determine the best option to aid wound healing. As the nurse and the physician examine the patients’ situation, they can develop a plan that incorporates recommendations based on research findings, the specific characteristics of the wound and the patients’ condition, lifestyle, current self-care capability, availability of resources and other factors that will determine how the treatment plan is carried
