"I have given you my soul;leave me my name!"(Miller 143). The soul is the deepest part of a human. It encompasses emotions, characteristics, and morals. In Salem, 1962, many were accused of handing over their souls to the devil in the art of witchcraft. In reality their souls belonged to only themselves, but were forced to admit, or otherwise face death. In Aurther Miller's, The Crucible, Giles Corey, Elizabeth Proctor, and John Proctor showed courage through the false accusations brought against them.
Giles Corey is not the brightest old man. He unknowingly brought an accusation of witchcraft against his wife by telling Hale that his wife reads strange books and hides them from him. He later had a claim that a man told him mr putman was accusing people of witchcraft to get their land. In an attempt to protect this man he refused to mention his name. She maintained this throughout the play, even after being accused of sticking a needle in Elizabeth with a voodoo doll. She displayed courage as she stood up for herself and her husband, even when it brought a death sentence to her. She had the name Goody Proctor for a reason. She was known as being a great person to everyone and not being able to tell a lie.
