Actions Against Abuse Bullying is a common denominator present in the lives of most young adults. Regularly, teens are faced with the question of how to deal with the mistreatment they face day-to-day. Their answers can be organized into three separate courses of action: Resolving to violence, accepting the abuse, and speaking out. “Lashing out”, “fighting back”, and “defending yourself” are actions that could be justified, but signify violence. In these situations, the victims live in constant distress, choosing to accept the cruelty, and appease the aggressor in order to gain his/her favor or their forgiveness. Some teens strive to ignore the slurs and act as if it is a normal phenomenon, as if being shoved into a locker or being called names is something that is perfectly natural. Many continue hoping, believing, and thinking that the bullying will not escalate, and that one day the bully will get tired and move on. Victims wait, knowing that eventually, in a couple of years, the aggressor will go his/her separate way. Thus, the victim decided that the best choice is to endure until then. But, to accept victimization is to become a toy. The thing the bully beats on and insults when he/she has had a bad day. To accept being bullied, is to accept being someone’s punching bag. This situation is present in a popular kid show known as Everybody Hates Chris. Chris is a hard-working honor student, and is emotionally and physically bullied every day by his classmate Caruso.
