This is shown in The Outsiders when Ponyboy and Johnny couldn’t ask anybody else but Dally for help. An example is when Ponyboy says “That was the difference between his gang and ours. They had a leader, and we were organized” (138). In this statement Ponyboy is conveying that the Socs have to listen to one voice. But the greasers trust and listen to each other like a family. One more example is when Dally says “Come on… we’re goin’ to see Johnny” (145). This sentence conveys that Dally was happy about doing something that was very important to him, but all he wanted to do was see his friend. Although somebody may want to do something more fun than see someone or listen to other people, the greasers show that when you do those things it creates a good family-like connection. The theme in the novel The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton is friendship is like family. Some people don’t have an amazing family, and some people don’t even have a family. But there are also some that are very lucky and have amazing friends that they can call their family. People can be very blessed by having a good family to go and see every day. But others can’t.
