After reading this novel, I noticed lying absorbed the story. Gatsby lied about his entire life, Daisy lied to Tom, and Nick lied, being an unfaithful narrator. ‘“You see,” cried Catherine… Elaborateness of the lie” shows that even the smallest subject turned out to be a lie. Many of the lies are very unnecessary. Gatsby is stepping on his own toes when his lie backfires with Nick saying, “’I thought you inherited your money’… ‘But I am not in either one now’”. I have to clash with the story because I believe it’s right to say the truth instead of lying. In my experience, lying has always come back to haunt me, so I’ve learned to tell the truth. Almost every girl, including myself, dream about having a boyfriend and their wedding day, and how happy they’ll be. But what I learned from this novel is to never rely on love for happiness. Though Gatsby is rich and does everything he can possibly do to make Daisy love him, Daisy, in reality, is just in love with his money. Gatsby states, “her voice is full of money”, never saying her voice is full of love for Gatsby, just his money. Because Gatsby had his heart deeply set on love being the answer to the happiness in his life, he is completely crushed when he realizes he has no one. “The loneliest moment in someone’s life… can do is stare blankly”. Because this is the result Gatsby has, it really changed my opinion and view about love.
